REPORT #270 May 2000
BELIZE AND OTHER CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES IN THE CARIBBEAN BASIN ARE NOT TRUMPETING THEIR ECONOMIC POWER TO THE USA

Produced by the Belize Development Trust

Over the last twenty five years, the Caribbean countries en masse, are now a larger export market for the USA, than nations such as: Brazil, or France!

Caribbean leaders need to sit down and think how they can parlay this trade into some advantages for the whole block of nations comprising the Caribbean Basin Initiative. There should be more coming out of this economic power than we have. Some marketing and processing experts and others need to create a THINK TANK, to throw ideas onto the table, to use this power of importing USA goods, into return advantages for the Caribbean.

One item, might be to ask Congress to quit treating Cubans as defacto American citizens, with special privileges, so long as they can stick their big toe on a beach in Florida. Or give all other Caribbean countries in the basin, the same priviliges!

There must be political clout here in organized joint cooperation? Perhaps returned criminals of the USA justice system could be collectively denied. Remove the local citizenship from such offenders and have the USA deport them someplace else? They don't want them, we don't either, they are no longer citizens by right of birthplace.

Perhaps a request for a NATO style assistance to the Caribbean joint Armed Forces, for a strike team to intervene in any member country taken over by revolution, or being destroyed by bandits claiming to be guerrilla forces?

Perhaps specialized aid packages for building of hospitals, bridges and road work?

Let the THINK TANK run wild with imagination and see what comes out of Caribbean block power! Together we stand strong and firm, or separated, we fall as minor players.
