Fort Barlee Corozal, 1880's

Dora Riverol: If you zoom in you can see the cannons being wheeled out, it looks like they are preparing for a military parade. You can see the two red brick towers that still exist in Corozal. It was built about 1870 after the Icaiche Maya and their leader Canul invaded Corozal.

Because of the angle of the pic, I suspect the photo was taken from the building next to the Church on other side of same street. I have other pics of this area in Corozal, there was an impressive two story building at this corner... pic either taken from the second floor or roof...do not believe pic taken from a radio or other tower as this technology did not exist in the 1880s....on either side of what is now the Corozal Central Park to the right and left of the Fort there were mostly thatch and pimento houses.
