Home About Us Our Staff Beach Bar Activities Where to Eat Rooms & Rates Contact Us Sundiver Beach on Ambergris Caye Sundiver Beach is a sea front hotel nestled among coconut palms along a stretch of unspoiled white sand beach 4.5 miles north of the town of San Pedro. It is close (but not too close) to some of the most charming homes and resorts on the island. The focus of this intimate, two level property is truly “on the beach” where all twelve rooms have an unrestricted view of the Caribbean Sea. The ground floor rooms open directly onto the beach and one of two swimming pools while the larger upper floor suites have wide covered verandas that overlook the sea and the Belize barrier reef. The traditional wooden architecture is a compliment to the beauty that surrounds it but at the same time offers modern comfort, finish and conveniences. The environment is peaceful and inviting with a true Caribbean feel. Learn more... Beach Bar Our little palapa bar is literally ON the beach with one of our two swimming pools adjacent. It is not loud or boisterous (ok, not usually) but is remarkably relaxing. We offer local drinks, beers and homemade snacks at some of the most reasonable prices on the island (even if you stay somewhere else, you can still join us at the bar). Before, after or in between your drinks, maybe a homemade burrito (made by Laura your bartender who also happens to make the best tortillas on the planet) or some spicy Thai noodles (made by Mandy who owns the grocery nearby). Beach bar is open from 10am-5pm daily but will stay open for guests a bit longer if some guests just have to have the extra cocktail before dinner! Activities Your time in Belize is precious (but don’t forget to relax). We can suggest the following activities when you aren’t off on some amazing adventure (just to name a few that we enjoy)… • Take a dip in our beachfront pool or bake in a lounge chair. If seclusion is your thing, our sundeck and relaxation pool to the back is surrounded by a privacy hedge of flowering bougainvillea. • Sit poolside and mull over a game of chess or backgammon. Maybe try a little innocent gambling with the local dice game “Threes” – we will teach you so you can take on the locals with confidence. • Have another Belikin Beer (this goes without saying). • Borrow a bike and ride to one of the nearby restaurants, resorts, bars, etc. or make your way into town – it’s about a half hour ride along the beach. • Take the Island Ferry (it’s just a small boat really) to “downtown” San Pedro and do some shopping or enjoy the nightlife. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes and the price varies. We phone them and they will pick up and drop off at our dock until midnight (2 am on weekends for you hard-core types). • Grab a mask and fins out of the dive shop and jump off the end of our dock, or better yet: • Take one of our sea kayaks out to the reef and really be amazed (and a bit exhausted). • Scuba or snorkel Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley with Genie and Chris, our onsite dive experts and all around good guys. They really know these waters – both were born and raised on the island and live just down the beach. • Try Kite Boarding with Jason our next-door neighbor – he knows his stuff. • Start a game of volleyball on our beachfront sand court. • Catch a snapper on the end of our 200 ft dock (you can cook it over coconut husks on the barbecue) or just let him go… • Duck into our library and choose a book or DVD (it is air-conditioned if the volleyball got to you) and maybe plan your next trip to Belize! • Watch a movie on our large screen TV in the lounge (actually don’t, that sounds boring). • Vegetate in a hammock (a personal favourite). Even more than its natural beauty, what makes Belize such an amazing place are its people. Locals and visitors mingle freely and enjoy the same activities. You will very likely make friends with the people whose job it is to make your experience the best possible – they are not just servers, but are really your hosts in their country. From the time you arrive, you will be treated like one of us. Our small staff have been with Sundiver for many years and we can guarantee you will miss them when you leave. They might just miss you too! Our goal is to offer the most comfortable rooms and enjoyable amenities in a beautiful and unspoiled Caribbean setting and still leave you plenty of money to spend on all the other important parts of your visit to our island and the rest of Belize. Sundiver is neither an “all-inclusive” nor “gouge you at every opportunity” type of resort. However, if constant handholding, 24-hour buffets, expensive onsite restaurants, jaded staff and theme park structures that mock your surroundings is what you are looking for then it is probably not the place for you. Guests from other resorts who visit our bar often comment that they “wished they had known about us” when planning their trip. When they learn about our prices, some really wish they had known. Beachfront rooms start at $99 U.S per night. We will provide you with honest opinions and advice on restaurants, bars, tours and activities without any agenda of our own. Our intention is to under-promise and over-deliver so that your experience with us will be a pleasant surprise that you will want to repeat and recommend to others. Where to Eat Sundiver does not operate a restaurant except for breakfast if ordered the night before. A limited selection of homemade hot and cold snacks is available at the Beach Bar from 11 am until 6:00 pm. We are a ten to 15 minute walk to some of the island’s top restaurants including Rojo Lounge at Azul, Mambo (at Mata Chica Resort), Rendezvous (French-Thai Fusion) and Luna at Journey’s End. Mata Grande Grocery (matagrandegrocery.com) is your friendly, local, reasonably priced source for everything from toiletries and basic food and drink (including alcohol) items to locally made ice cream and a variety of prepared foods. Rojo Market is a ten-minute walk and features, among other things, items from their gourmet restaurant menu. Finally, the large restaurant/lounge room and sea view veranda along with use of the fully equipped commercial-grade kitchen at Sundiver is available to guests during the hours of 5-8pm for those who wish to prepare meals. Why not have a party and invite your new friends?
