Wow, I had no idea this was possible.

This woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana - she did not do it on a lark but had studied them daily and one morning put the cup in her hand with sugar water in it. They had gotten used to her standing by the feeder and came over to her hand. She says in touching them they are as light as a feather. She said, if she had known her husband would take pictures she would have put on makeup !!
This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This lady lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. Just for a fun, she took a little red dish and filled it with sugar water and that was the result.

As a teen growing up we had a neighbor who the birds would flock to. He taught me how, it takes much patience and time, every day stand near the feeder, stock still, as they feed, after a couple of weeks move closer. In time you are standing right next to the feeder, now start holding your hand cuped upwards. After a few days put seed in your hand, after a few days to a week or so they will eat from your hand, soon they will flock to you as you approach the feeder. I used to love the chickadees in NJ crawling all over me for food. It is quite an experience.

That is so COOL! I live in the fly-zone too and Sept-Oct have hundreds of hummingbirds stopping by my feeders. I'll have to try that!
