I had hoped this would turn out another way as Elbert thought. A "do gooder" lives next to Elbert, wow. Lucky Elbert. Jeeze! O. K. now what to do. Go with Elbert and show support for these brave people. Live and let live.

Exposure Attention Publicity
If they are going to do wrong show and tell. Don't let it be forgotten or covered up. Go find them and ask pointed bold questions of the people in charge and shame them.

Post a joke of the day

The Mestizo originally settled in northern Belize after seeking refuge from the Caste War in 1849.

The Yucatec Maya arrived at the same time with the Mestizos during the Caste War.

The Creoles are the descendants of African slaves who first arrived in Belize in the 1720.

The Garifuna people began to arrive in Belize from as early as 1823 but the largest group came in 1832 after they were driven from the island of St. Vincent.

The East Indians arrived in Belize in the mid-1800s as indentured servants.

The Mennonites arrived in 1958. They signed an agreement with the Government of Belize to administer their own communities, provide for themselves and have their own schools.

The 1982 War in Lebanon brought thousands of Lebanese to Belize for safe haven and new beginnings.

The transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong to Chinese rule July 1st 1997 put fear of Communism in the hearts of the Taiwanese and Belize gained 20,000 new citizens.

In March 2008 17 Cubans landed on Ambergris Caye and Belize sent them back to the oppressive regime to be prosecuted for attempting an escape to a better life.

Elbert, that says it all. Although I hope it doesn't end that way. I don't think Castro's government is oppressive as it is a victim of U.S. gangster policy. Again, live and let live. Fidel is a good man and will do the right thing. Oops, Raul now.

The problem is that Belize has a good thing going with Cuba, thus the agreement to return its refugees.

Why on earth would your neighbor phone the police? What's the nature of your neighbor's malfunction?

PRESS OFFICE
GOVERNMENT OF BELIZE
Ministry of Finance
Cabinet Meeting: 4th March, 2008
Belmopan - 05 March, 2008
Cabinet met in regular session on Tuesday, March 4th, 2008.
Ministers were briefed on the situation of 17 Cuban nationals who came ashore at Ambergris Caye. The Cubans informed Belizean authorities that they thought they had come ashore on the coast of the Republic of Honduras. Cabinet was informed that the occupants of the boat are detained at Price Barracks, Ladyville, while the BDF repairs the boat. When the repairs are completed the Cuban nationals will leave Belize.

This was posted on the other thread .

I just got back from town and heard from some Cubans in San Pedro that in fact the 17 Cubans are in Hattiville and The Cuban Embassy is insisting they be deported. I'm going to keep this going until i find out where they are and check the Boat this evening to see if its been retrieved and is being repaired. I would hate to believe fluff to pacify the heat of the issue is being thrown out.
Do any of you know what Hattivile is like , ever seen it or heard about what its like? I hope they aren't really there and this is a rumor.
International press are going to kick in soon and the incident is going global . would be an embarrassment for Belize if these People aren't being treated humane.

Is Belize still returning Cubans to Cuba, those who have escaped and landed here?

The press release is a sham, The boat is still where it was pulled no BDF is repairing it. I'm going to find out today exactly where they are . I heard yesterday they where being kept in Hativille Prison waiting to be deported , despite what the press release says.
