I suspect shes got an egg. Usually she leaves if i get close but this time she won't. The woodpeckers presence in a coconut tree killing the tree is a fallacy. I've watched this tree with its 4 woodpecker holes for 6 years and it seems to only look better. This bird on Ambergris Caye I shot this morning is a Golden-Fronted Woodpecker, Meanerpes aurifrons both male and female have red mustaches.
Oh my gosh, Elbert, that is what it looks like! Never seen one before, and never heard of them. Are they very common here? There seems to be a pair of them; I am assuming the male is the more colorful of the 2. Thanks for the info!
