The cutworms in the midwest hung out on tomato plants and were bright green. This thing has a wide mouth, (like a snake)...in the second picture it's mouth and face are partially covered up with sand. ...it's about two and a half inches long.....and no signs of plants dying or dead around where it was, so I don't think it's a grub of any kind. At least not any kind I have ever seen. Much bigger than the kinds of grubworms we used to have in the US, and those were white, without scales. Puzzling.
