Critter quiz

Gardner found this in a flower bed today, and neither he nor the gardner next door had ever seen one before even though they have both lived on the island forever.....it's got scaly skin like a snake, but little foot pods on the bottom side....flips itself over immediately when you try to turn it over...any ideas? Bigger than a grub...weird

its a baby "sand worm"........just kidding!! Wow....it is weird looking. does it have teeth or a sucker type mouth?? (not joking here. really curious)

Guess I should have asked how big it was before asking the above question. Hard to tell in these pics. confused

The cutworms in the midwest hung out on tomato plants and were bright green. This thing has a wide mouth, (like a snake)...in the second picture it's mouth and face are partially covered up with sand. ...it's about two and a half inches long.....and no signs of plants dying or dead around where it was, so I don't think it's a grub of any kind. At least not any kind I have ever seen. Much bigger than the kinds of grubworms we used to have in the US, and those were white, without scales. Puzzling.
