Endangered Species Tree
When Valle was selling out the nursery I bought a lot of stuff - some I had not seen anyplace else. One was a tree whose leaves were deep green on the top and purple underneath. It was less that five feet tall. I planted it on the back side of my place "Birdland" to hide a wooden bodega on my neighbors property. I know this was no more than six months ago. It has flourished and is about 10' tall and just over the last week has come into full bloom. No one here (that I have talked to) said they have ever seen one before. I took pictures and spent hours going through my many books and finally resorted to the internet "Tropical Trees" and looked at every one that I didn't already know. Lucky me - I found it Clerodendrum quadriloculare
It is now on the endangered list in Florida.
I was also able to identify my baby palm trees Pseudophoenix sargentii Wendland ex Sargent that are listed as rare.
