With the seagrape trees blooming we have great black wasps visiting every day. They are about 3 inch long and not aggressive - they are only interested in the blossoms. Most hummingbirds are actually smaller than them. Googled them and this is their official name: Great Black Wasp - Sphex Pennsylvanicus.

They kill the dreaded coconut beetle, so be nice to them, they don't eat the coconut beetle, something much more macabe, they lay their eggs on its body and the hatchinglings eat the beetles body left them by the parent. We need more of these guys :-)
Where can I buy some? LOL We keep having theives steal our coconuts and leave sap on trees and husks on ground. I'm told this is what attracts the beetle. Is that right?

thats what I've heard , I'm also believing that pouring a 5 gal bucket of sea water on the head of the palm tree occasionally keeps the Rinosauras Beetle away, or so say the local sooth Sayers.
