I like grackles too - we have them in the yard along with hummingbirds, doves, orioles, iguanas, crabs, dogs, cats, geckos and ants, koi and goldfish, frogs and mosquitoes round up the mix - now we have affids (sp?) and ladybugs to complete the menagerie - the ospreys visit and watch as well as the frigate birds and seagulls.

Boy, I love this place.

"Who knows one of these days someone might actually like grackles and shoot the people that shoot them for no other reason then they like grackles."

Reminds me of an old tune..I don't like Fridays....

"beyond your miniscule grasp of life."

Pardon moi!

I try and not let the other birds see me shoot the grackle and I get rid of its body quick. I don't want the other birds not trusting me.
However they just might appreciate me more if they understood I only shot grackles.
I'm positive they don't like grackles either.
Grackles raid the other birds nest and eat the eggs.

i feed birds all day long as well. every bird who visits takes a dump at some point. the grackles are bullies and chase off all the others. do i like them? their OK. do i shoot them? no. i yell at them sometimes.
maybe i'm just a big puss but i can only kill bugs.
i once shot a land crab with my wrist rocket and killed him. i felt terrible. he was just sitting there enjoying crab life and WHAM, i killed him with a sea grape!
but i understand where elbert is at. he wants to make things easier for the other birds by eliminating the thugs.
i say it will be a losing battle. one you'll never win.
and if i could have that genie grant me one wish, it would be that the animals could understand me.
oh,, and a weekend month with sandra bullock!

Actually I think Elbert is more of a softy than he lets on. After noticing his lack of fondness for grackles, we sent him one of Maya's wildlife photographs - a rather gruesome but somehow riveting picture of a green iguana eating a baby grackle. (I should point out that despite most people's belief that green iguanas are vegetarians they are quite ravenous carnivores until they reach adult hood). I am outing Elbert here by saying that he seemed relatively sympathetic with the unfortunate baby grackle and found little pleasure in the photograph.

I must admit that I have killed (hopefully) hundreds of mosquitoes this week and have become rather skilled at catching them mid flight with one hand. I'm well known as an animal lover, but I believe that a sensible offense is a sensible defense where mozzies are concerned.

Don't mention it. After all, you supplied me with the dictionary! (do you want it back?)

I don't need it back - just correct me when I am in a quandary!
