Very cool. We had an owl hooting up a storm down here, a mile south of town, up until about a month ago. Haven't heard a peep lately and never was able to find it.
Great Pictures Harriette We have been looking for the owl for the last week or so on our daily trips past your house without much success Would you mind if we stopped by tomorrow...Marianne is desperate to get some photos

Each evening at about 5:00 the male starts hooting and I;ve been told sits out in the open. Momma on the nest is easiest to see from 2:00 to 5:00 PM when the sun is shining on her.

If you listen to his hoots and think of them as dot and dash like Morris Code you can start to recognize patterns and associate the patterns with what they are doing, like hunting , mate attraction, territory claims, etc. ho-hohohoho--ho-----ho. I'm pretty sure is territory claim. ya think i've been out here to long?
I don't know why but my instinct tells me that it is the male hooting. He has the same one all the time. Hoot . . . who-hoot repeated over and over. Sometimes with long intervals between hoots. Elbert - Looking at Momma on the nest I'm inclined to think that is a wing across her breast. What do you think?
