First I would like to thank God our Lord for giving us the opportunity to live with this great man whom he gave us as a father.
On behalf of my mother, my brothers and the Gomez family I thank everybody present here and those who attended the wake, sent flowers, called, sent texts, or simply had us in your prayers. Also, thanks to Mr. Angel Nuņez for his anecdotes and very kind words about my father.
With a wounded heart, today we will bid farewell to our Father Abundio Ernest Gomez. We also celebrate his life here with us, giving thanks to God.
Gomez Ernesto Neto was born on July 11, 1924, his parents and Emerita and Cristino Gomez. A few months after being born his mother passed away and he was raised by Mrs. Monica, along with his uncles and sister Alice.
In 1950 he married a great woman, Tomasita Guerrero, and lived almost 61 years together; sharing all the promises they made at the altar before God.
My father worked as chiclero in the cocales (coconut farms), was a fisherman like all Sanpedranos of this time, but when an ulcer started to affect his stomach he had to stop fishing and take jobs closer to home. For over 25 years he worked for Maya Airlines, also in the Teatro Arenas and collected couple fees at the community dances; he did this with a strong character but at the same time a kind heart. He assisted anyone and was a true gentleman.
I have endless memories of my father that I would take a lifetime to tell.
I remember feeling tall, almost in the clouds, when he walked down the streets of San Pedro with me on his shoulders. There was not a Christmas season that passed without apples, pears and grapes at home and all birthdays were celebrated!
But the most beautiful thing is that:
He gave us a family which he longed for
He gave us a mother that he never knew
He gave us an education that he never had
He taught us to work and that all work is good work.
And taught us that happiness is having a good home.
Now as head of a family I am grateful for his teachings and will make every effort to teach my sons and my children's children so that they live in a family that is united and happy as he built his.
All that me and my siblings are today, we owe it to this gentleman who we say goodbye today, as well as my mother who is and always be the stable rock that keeps us here in the world and our community. My dad is going with a smile because he has shown us that in this life to succeed one must first want to.
Today we thank God for the last five years of his life and for giving us the opportunity to love him even more, to further pamper him and show our appreciation for being a great father.
Thanks,
Goodbye Daddy, Goodbye Tati
Rest in peace.
