MERCY DAY ACTIVITIES CELEBRATED IN BELIZE


Activities are under way today at Mercy Institution in observance of Mercy Day. Four Catholic institutions in Belize are sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. One of these is Muffles College High School in Orange Walk. Activities this morning at Muffles College included a mass, tree planting, and visiting the elderly, the needy, and the unfortunate in Orange Walk. As part of the Mercy activities a special ceremony was held last night at Muffles College to award the Sister Leona Panton Award to Lourdes Zaldivar, a teacher at Muffles College who has shown exemplary work at the school. The Santa Ana Sodality Group was awarded the Spirit of Mercy Award for the collaboration, compassion and concern for women and women's issues. Special invited guests at last night's ceremony were Eugene Hernandez, the first principal of Muffles College and the nine students of the first graduating class who were also recognized for their contribution to the institution.
