OAS Approves Scholarships for Belizeans

10 August, 2005 - Belmopan
Six (6) Belizeans have been awarded scholarships to undertake Bachelors
and post graduate degree studies in various fields of study at
Universities abroad. Four (4) scholarship extensions have also been
given to deserving Belizeans.

This announcement was made today by the Ministry of National Development
after the approval was received from the Organization of American States
(OAS) Division of Scholarships and Training.

The awards and extensions were approved based on national priority as
established by Belize and the OAS, and financial need. Belize and the
OAS have agreed that the national priority areas should be those that
strengthen local efforts to pursue integrated development.

The value of these scholarships, which is for the 2005/06 academic year
only, is estimated to be BZ$ 530,000.00.

where studies will be undertaken are as follows:

The OAS provides scholarships for university studies and/or research
leading to graduate and undergraduate degrees, scholarships for
technical studies and scholarships for professional development.
Studies may be carried out by attending classes on-site at the
University, by distance education, or a combination of both.
