How it works is that 25 Mexican students come to Belize to study English and 15 Belizean students go to Mexico in order to get a technical degree. The Mexican students who actually arrive yesterday they are here to study English for 1 year and at the same time the 15 Belizean students who are going to Mexico they are going to spend 2-3 years in order to get this technical degree."

Jim McFadzean
"Are these full scholarships offered to these students by both governments?"

Marcelino Miranda, Press Officer - Mexican Embassy Belize
"Yes. For the Belizeans who are going to Mexico they are going to receive a full scholarship for 2-3 years. At the same time for the 25 Mexican students who are here will have full scholarship for 1 year. This has been very good for students from both sides of the border because they are taking advantage of these opportunities. In the case of Mexico, English is an advantage because it provides an additional skill to Mexican students. For Belizean students they have the opportunity of studying in Mexico at the best technical school in Mexico that is the Conalep and then they have to come back to Belize in order to contribute to the development of Belize. That is the agreement that they sign."

So far, more than One hundred Belizean students have benefited from the tertiary level institution in Mexico , while Two hundred Mexican students have benefited from the English as a second language program offered at the University of Belize .
