On Wednesday November 16th, the Belize Biltmore Plaza hotel will be the venue for Geographic Information System (GIS) day. GIS Day aims to educate the public on how geography is an important part of our everyday lives and how to use GIS in various ways. GIS software represents different features on earth such as buildings, rivers and roads among others. With this technology it is possible to explore relationships and trends and conduct analyses that can be represented as maps. At the event school teams can enter the first Annual "Design your Own Town/City" competition which is a project- based learning experience that requires students to imagine, design and build cities of the future. This competition will be held for the primary and secondary levels. Finalists will receive their own Competitor t-shirt and first place members of each winning team will receive a Laptop with ArcView Home user License. For more information about the competitions you can call 223-6807 or visit the website at www.gis.com.bz/gisday . GIS Day will also boast exhibits, games and activities and attractive prizes.
