It's a big day for the Football Federation of Belize (FFB). Their Ordinary Congress is scheduled for this evening at 6pm. The FFB has endured many challenges. Viewers will recall last year (in June) when then Minister of Sports John Saldivar had intervened in the organization's Worldcup aspirations temporarily pulling back on Government's support. The FFB had to take their first worldcup qualifier return match to foreign soil and play that game in Honduras. The drama heightened with an extraordinary visit by Joseph Sett Blatter, FIFA President, at a turbulent time for national football - he had given his full backing for the FFB and furthermore chastised GOB for its interference. His visit also laid the groundwork for the way forward leading up to today's big elections. The list of candidates for the post of president include: Dr. Bertie Chimilio - 12 year president of the FFB vying for another term in office. Gerald Henry Sr. a seasoned football veteran who had achieved the distinct of being one of the greatest players Belize has ever seen; and Ruperto Vicente a well known football figure and professional referee. Sr. Vice president nominees are Bernaldino Pech, Daniel Fabro, and Sergio Chuc. The post of Vice-President is also to be filled and nine persons will be vying for that position. The elections will be for one President, (1) Senior Vice-President, (1) Vice-President and two (2) members. The location will be the Headquarters in Belmopan and voting gets underway at 6pm.
