Your light bill rates will not go up but there are going to be some changes as a result of approvals granted to BEL. The changes come after the electricity company submitted a list of fees and charges that they requested consideration for by the Public Utilities Commission. The PUC's Director of Administration and Rate Setting, Dr. Leroy Almendarez, went over with us BEL's entire request list today.

All of the requests were not granted. Among the approvals included deposits for new connections, starting at fifty dollars for small households with basic electricity demands. The PUC's Director of Electricity, Victor Lewis, briefed Love News on other approvals that BEL has been given under the new changes.

A meeting is scheduled this coming Friday between the Belize Electricity Limited and the Public Utilities Commission to discuss the changes. In the meantime, BEL has until next Monday to submit their objection to the changes if they deem fit. If no objections are forwarded by then, the new changes will take effect on July first.
