I spoke to my friend Footie in the city
last night. He was on the
Caye yesterday for about an hour, and will be
returning today or tomorrow.
He plans, hopes to go out in the day an help
with
the clean up and then
return at night to the city. So, I will be able
to call him. I have
asked
him to try to get to the back and find out what
kind of damage is at your
house and Lydie and Danes and surrounding homes.
He says that the streets
are still full of debris and it is very hard to
get around but he will do
his best to get there or find someone who knows.
Says that he will go to
see Mary Jo and Cynthia and get the word on
folks.
Also, is going to find
out about Dianne. She and the baby were there
for
the storm and you know
how she is.

This is what he told me. Every electrical pole,
line and phone line is
down. In places is looks like a bomb went off.
The generator is still
under water, most of the steel from the
building
is gone. In the back by
the Sunset all the little houses are knocked
down..some of them by boats
that were forced up on land others because of
the
water surge. Miss
Marla's
house and all the one in that hood are broke up
even Barbara's guest house
is in bad shape. There was about 5 feet of
water
on the entire caye at
one
time during the storm and all of the houses are
brown from mud. Every
house
has extensive water damage. The Sand box
building
looked good but down
stairs was flooded. The top (new part) of Wish
Willy came down, Ivan and
Sharon's house in back of Miss Rose, Miss
Fellie,
and Laly's is down and
broke up. The youth hostel is shaky and damage
to
roof. The house on the
corner, that is high, across from the Yoo Hoo is
still standing but twisted
up. He says that any one that had a high house
and had is strapped with
metal strapping is still standing. Miss Rose's
house is ok. Cynthia's
house flooded but standing. Ellen house dropped
down off the post but is
not broke up. The Joseph clan in the back all
lost their homes except
Charlie's is still standing. Jason Joseph's
house
dropped and broke in 4
or
5 pieces. All of the little houses in the back
by
were the Crab's used to
live are gone except for Lorna and José's..they
had cement posts. Heading
south from the Joseph clan all the little houses
there are gone but the
Rosado Propane is still standing..metal
strapping
again. Most of the
houses
in the middle of the caye are flooded but ok as
they were not up on
stilts.
The roof on the school has about 3 pieces on
zinc
left on it. Most of the
front of caye is ok only damage came from wind
and flooding.

I will speak to him again tomorrow night and
hope
for more news. If
anyone
has an specific questions..direct them to me and
I
will do my best to have
them answered. And pass along any messages. I
told him to tell everyone
that we are thinking about them...they are in
our
hearts and that Val is
heading down the first of the week.

Val please send your number again.

take care,
Peggy
