A cazillion questions......We are thinking about taking our own fishing gear with us, poles, reels, and maybe lures. But we have no idea what of those to bring, or do you use bait?

I am no fisher person but went out with Able Guerarra last July he provided every thing we needed, and showed us how to fish, had a great time, he cleaned a filleted everything we caught, had great fish dinners for the next couple of days. Enjoy

It depends on what you're fishing for, if you're going reef fishing for snapper barracuda and such typically they use sardines, so all you would need is hooks and steal leaders. If you are planning to fly fish. that's a different matter, and someone else could better answer that that I.

Unless you're fly-fishing most of the guides will have equipment that will do fine and is in good working order. I've always packed my own fly rod, reel and line just for the fact that I'm used to the feel and setup. Don't forget wire fly leaders if you're going to try your hand at Barra on the fly (if you live in freshwater country Pike and Muskie leaders should work just as well.)

heres the deal ,if you hire a guide/fishing boat capt.. you need nothing , very good guides are dirt cheap..compared to states side prices and will show you a fun time .. a real deal.... if you fish off your dock or off beach you will need your own lite spin tackel..

what we are talking about is just doing our own fishing, say from the piers, or beach. Would love to go bone fishing ON the other side of ac, but understand you can't get there from the reef side.

SO WHAT WOULD ONE BRING WITH THEM TO AC? REMEMBERING WE MAY WANT TO FISH ON OUR OWN TIME, NOT NECESSARILY WITH A GUIDE.

Are there fishing supplies that are hard to come by or really expensive in Belize that we could bring with us as a gesture of good will?

Last year I watched a guy casting from the pier around Ramon's. He was sight fishing for bonefish, and caught and released a nice one.

captjeff: what's dirt cheap? Where would you find someone to take you out for a half day or so, maybe just 2 people?
