We're going to be on AC later this summer.. first time for us.. planning on two weeks... besides the snorkeling and the trips to some Mayan sites would it be worth going to Caulker or Chaple Cayes for a day... and if we do , what's there to do...

My husband and I loved Caye Caulker when we were there this past week for just a few hours. I wish we had more time to spend there. We plan to return someday.

While our guys fished, the girls spent a morning on Caye Caulker. We rented a cart and toured the island while looking for possible lodging for future trips. We enjoyed our morning there and I am glad that we went, but we found that we aren't ready to give up staying in San Pedro Town for Caye Caulker yet. When the guys came back for us at lunchtime, we all had delicious lunches over the water at the Rainbow Bar and Grill.
(It would be nice, however, if Caye Caulker could remain the way it is now. I have been told that CC is like what San Pedro used to be.)

While on the Caye Caulker subject, can anyone tell me what Lobster Fest is? We will be on AC the 1st week of July and would like to visit CC for the Bug Fest(feast) on Sunday the 3rd. Is there any special transportation running that weekend?

Caye Caulker is enjoyable, I really don't see much reason in renting a golf cart however, it's pretty small.

I believe the cost is about $35BZE round trip unless it's gone up in the past year. The water taxi leaves at 8:00, 9:30, 11:30, 1:00, 2:30, and 4:30. The trip takes about a half hour, maybe a little less.

Caye Caulker (Corker) is great. Small, intimate and clean. The beaches are cool too. Our tour guide said the locals call Caulker "Hippie Island" because of the large backpack crowd that visits ... primarily because lodging is reeeeally cheeeeeap. $50.00 a night at some locations.

Just got back from 3 days on Caye Caulker, and I think it's definitely worth the trip for a change of pace. There's not a lot there, but great atmosphere just to hang out (and if you're tired of the traffic in San Pedro). You could see the whole place in a couple of hours, walking. Several really good places for lunch (note that many seem to close on Wednesday) - including the Rainbow mentioned above. It's fun to check out the Split for a swim and/or snorkel, and visit the Lazy Lizard.
