Well, I got it. Pretty sure it was a Hol Chan on Friday night. I had put on SafeSea earler in the day, but we had been in town since Sunday and no where had we run into anyone that had it. We had snorkeled there during the day two days prior as well. So, for the night snorkel I was a bit chilly so decided to wear a tank top over my suit, bad idea. This was friday night and I didn't start noticing welts until Sunday morning, which have been getting worse since. My chest is covered, some on my neck and abdomen. Very itchy. At least we are home now, it would have been very uncomfortable in the heat and sun. I have used some steriod cream, which helped with the itching, and took some benadryl this morning, cause I thought I had read somewhere that might help.
So, rather than weed thru all of the old posts, can someone answer a few questions for me.
1. How long will it last?
2. By scratching it, will it spread like poison ivy?
3. Can it be spread to another person by contact?
4. Any suggestions on other products I might use that would help?

Up to two weeks depending on how bad you got it, It will not spread if you scratch it but areas will not heal as fast if you break the skin scratching, It will not spread to another person, try calimine lotion for the itch. Also for next time keep a jug of dilluted ammonia with you in the boat, right after you get out of the water spray yourself down with the solution, it will not keep you from getting stung but will kill the organisms ability to keep firing and you won't get it as bad.

Me too. Eurax lotion or creme and maybe an antihistimine for the itching.

Thanks guys. It is still getting worse, more bumps as the day goes on, itchy as hell. Think I will just bite the bullet and see the Dr, get something out of all that money I dump into insurance. Thanks for the link Kaye&Scott, printed it out and will take it with me so the Dr. has a clue what this crap is, they probably don't much of it here in Wisconsin. What ticks me off is that I knew all of this and I could have prevented it. We were there all week and nothing, so I got careless. When we went out for the night snorkel I didn't put more SafeSea on first off, always applied it under the garments. Then when we first got in the water I thought I felt something tingly, but thought I was being parionid, so didn't say anything. When we got back to the boat Tulu had a couple of spots on his neck he put ice on right away. So, I thought I would have felt something and since I didn't, and nobody else said anything, I figured all was well. My husband hasn't gotten anything so far and he didn't use Safesea at all, I don't know about the couple from Jersy, they were leaving today. Had I said something, we had a big bottle of vinegar (Belizean remedy for everything, works great for coral scrapes and sunburn too!)on board.
Live and learn. Will post a full trip report (all was good) as soon as the itching stops !!

Well, I went to the doctor and he gave me two shots, some kind of steriods to stop the breakout, Benadryl to stop the itch. He also gave me some oral Benadryl and Allegra to take for a while. Let me tell you they really got a kick out of it, never saw anything like it. Glad I brought that article posted above, he kept it. My chest area looks like that guys back. Back and torso not so bad, a few on my neck, hairline and panty line. Also, took an oatmeal bath, using calimine at night and the steroid cream during the day. Fun, fun smile

Thanks but since I am leaving on Saturday I won't be able to get it w/o paying mucho for shipping.
So I was wondering if available in SP. Can not believe $25 for sun screen. Will be sure to bring my own supply from California.
