Read in the SP Sun that the Summerwind caused some damage but the article was unclear as to what happened. Anyone add more to the story?
Am I correct in the fact that they paid $700/day plus other taxes just to anchor? What services does the Port Authority provide that justifies that kind of fee?

Since when does a gov agency [anywhere] justify a fee?

most anchorage fees are levied on a footage basis (at least up here) and that was one big ass vessel)

If the government of Belize used the same mathematics with regard to coral reef damage that the state of Florida uses in the Key West area, the mighty Summerwind would have been seized and sold and the they still would have owed enough to cover the national debt. It was $300usd per square inch 20 years ago in Key West.
cool

They should put this guy in Jail until the reef heals. I've seen the wreckage of what he did and it may never grow back.

Is there an update on this?

Pedro1,

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been camping in some of Texas' fine wilderness.

You and I don't know each other, but I certainly hope you are not in any position of authority in Belize, or frankly even a business person with a say.

The reef, aside from being the second largest in the world, is one of the primary economic engines in Belize. As I understand it, the trees in the mountains form another precious resource for the Belizians. What the Summerwind did is without excuse and I make no apologies for my stance or opinions.
