Dear Friends,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the 2005 Saga Humane
Society Fund Drive. The facility where Saga and the Veterinary Clinic are
now located has been sold and we must relocate. Our goal with this years
fund drive is to build a permanent clinic. We are proud to announce we have
secured a loan and purchased land. We are now requesting your support in
helping to finance the building of a proper animal shelter and humane
education facility. Our goal is to raise $100,000BZ. For the past six
years, Saga has relied on the generosity of tourists and businesses for the
majority of the funding needed to provide these valuable services.
Financial support is needed so that Saga Humane Society may continue
our mission, which benefits all businesses, residents and guests of our
island. We are currently accepting pledges and have designated the
following donor levels: Bronze $10 - $100, Silver $101 - $500, Gold $501 -
$1,000, and Platinum $1,001 or more.
The Saga Society Foundation, established in 1999, is a non-governmental
organization operating as a non-profit humane society on Ambergris Caye.
Our sister organization, Saga Foundation Ltd. Is a registered foundation in
the state of Texas and possesses a 501(c)(3) United States tax-exempt
status - identification number 52666.
The Societys motto is Preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to
animals.Sagas primary mission is to control and monitor the cat and dog
populations on the island. Saga directors accomplish this by funding the
Cayes only veterinary clinic and temporary animal shelter, (paying rent,
utilities, veterinarian & technician salaries, etc.) to house and maintain
the health of the homeless animals of Ambergris Caye. In addition, the
Society conducts ongoing spay/neuter, humane euthanasia, adoption and
humane education programs. Sagas goal is to build the first animal shelter
education center in the country and provide a long-term solution to our
islands stray animal challenges.
As you know, tourism is the major source of revenue for businesses and
residents of Ambergris Caye. The use of strychnine poison (a very
short-term solution, not to mention a painful and prolonged death for the
dogs) to eradicate stray animals is no longer used by SP Town leaders
because of Sagas method of humane euthanasia. Added to the regular
round-upof stray and unhealthy animals, Saga services are seen as
tourist-friendly and a long-term approach to this ongoing challenge, thus
promoting the return of many happy visitors.
Since 1999, Saga Humane Society has made significant strides in
reducing the stray animal population, and educating the community about
animal care. Countless tourists, residents, resorts and hotels, the local
health inspector, San Pedro Police Department and the San Pedro Town
Council continuously praise and support the Societys efforts. The decrease
in the amount of animal-related complaints, the diminished number of strays
and the noticeable improvement of their general health, are testimony to
the success of our volunteer work.
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration of this request. We
look forward to a positive response. Please contact Saga to make a donation
or for more information.
Anyone wishing to support Saga's efforts may contact Saga at 226-3266
