no need to exchange US for BZ - everyone accepts US, just don't expect the samll places to change large bills.

My experience with the US or BZ dollars is yes, they will accept it, but they seemed kind of troubled by it. I asked a local and they told me they have to go through all kinds of forms and paperwork to fill out with the US dollars. So I tried using BZ as much as I could. There is a conversion place there..........couldn't tell you what it was called, but in SP, you will find it. Yes, they do take US. It gets confusing trying to convert in your head after a few glasses of rum punch.

Ahhhh!! But jaycubed, the 2 for 1 ratio makes it easier to convert after a few Belikins... because you're seeing two of everything anyway

jaycubed, I've only been traveling around Belize for 15 years, but I've never had anyone express any concern about accepting U.S. dollars. I can't imagine what paperwork or forms you are talking about. The Belize dollah has been pegged to the U.S. dollar for decades. In every nook and cranny of Belize people routinely accept either currency equally, and you often get change in mix of both. If anything, in large transactions U.S. dollars are preferred by some, since Belize dollahs are worthless outside Belize. --Lan Sluder www.belizefirst.com

My experience was as Lan described. At times people specifically requested US dollars. Same with traveler's checks in US currency - people would request us to sign them, but leave the payee blank. Someone told me Belize business people then used these traveler's checks to pay for products from vendors outside Belize. Don't know if that's accurate or not - but we were told that by at least two different people and the request not to write in a payee came almost everytime we used a traveler's check.

so tag - don't sweat it. Use your US currency and have a blast ( BTW, not sure when, but the Cambio that Jay referenced is soon to close IIRC)
