My wife & I are heading back to AC in December and were thinking about a mainland trip, perhaps cave tubing (other suggestions welcome). Has anyone booked their trip through Caves Branch? We were hoping to spend a little more time tubing through the caves and not so much time at the zoo. Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated!

My husband and I and a couple of friends took a cave tubing trip last year and I don't think we'll try that again. The tubing on the river was fun, but going thru the caves was extremely tense. Our guide kept yelling you must stay against the wall, it is very dangereous and you could get washed into an underground river. And if you did you probably would not live thru it. He has us so scared, we just wanted OUT of the caves!!!
But like I said, the tubing on the river was fun, we just didn't like the dark caves.
But it just might be your cup of tea, if so, stay close to the walls! eek

IMHO, Caves Branch is the only way to go...spend a couple of days on the mainland and see the real Belize.

I've been caving & cave tubing numerous times in BZ and NEVER heard of a a guide making such a statement. Perhaps he was pulling your leg?? Who did you tube with and where?

I don't remember the guides name, and I don't think he was pulling our leg. He had someone standing near where the underground river started to attempt to catch anyone that struggled in their tube and found theirselves getting to stay. Honestly, it was really scarey!

That's bizzare - we totally enjoyed our cave tubing experience. There was probably less than five minutes total time in the caves where you couldn't see some light at one end or the other. Based on our experience, I can't imagine getting "washed" or sucked into anything - it was a slow easy current - about the worst thing that happened to us was the water was shallow in some spots and our guide would yell, "Butt up!" My husband is not a big water fan, but still we had a blast - going again next week - I highly recommend it!
What time of year did you go?

I agree, bizzare is what I was thinking. I have cave tubbed twice ,felt very safe, not scared, very slow and easy. I went in April one year and May the other.

We went in October.
It does sound bizzare doesn't it, but it was so reallllllllll for us! we were in the caves for about 10-15 minutes with our headlamps, with the guide yelling turn of your lamps, turn on your lamps, over and over again.
The tubing on the river was fantastic and fun!! but we didn't like the caves or at least not that cave!
We are going back to belize this week-end, but I think we'll stick to snorkeling!
