I know this doesn't pertain to AC necessarily, but seems to be much more traffic than on the other boards. Hopefully some of you can help!

We will be getting married in San Pedro in April 2006. We've been there for 1 week this year, and will have another week there prior to the wedding. After the wedding, we will have 1 week for a honeymoon elsewhere in Belize.

We are thinking about 3 nights in a jungle lodge, and 3-4 nights in another beach area (besides San Pedro). I've looked at all of the hotels/resorts and still have about 10 or so that we're interested in.

For a jungle lodge, we're looking at Blanacaneaux and Chaa Creek in San Ignacio, Chan Chich in Orangewalk, and Hidden Valley Inn in Belmopan. For the beach resort, we're looking at Robert's Grove, Turtle Inn, and Calico Jack's in Placencia, Jaguar Reef, Hamanasi, and Almond Beach in Hopkins Village, and Kanantik in Stann Creek.

Which of these are most recommended for are the best value for the money? We most likely have $3-4,000 for the week and are looking for the best experience and value for the money. Also, are any of the jungle lodges easier to get to than the others? I appreciate any advice or info!

Also, has anyone had any bad or exceptional experiences at any of these places?

We stayed at Mopan River Resort in Benque Viejo del Carmen. ("Benque") The resort was all inclusive, meals were great and the excursions were fun. The staff was outstanding. They will sent a van to pick you up at either Goldstone (Intl) ot the Municipal airport, about a 2 hour ride on paved highway to within 3 miles of the Guatemala border.

DO select an A/C room. Ours wasn't. It was too hot in the day (although we were usually out on a trip) but pleasant enough for sleeping at night. In April, we did not have problems with mosquitos. I enjoyed the cave river tubing trip and the Xunantunich ruins. The site isn't as grand as the bigger ones, but it was facinating none the less. One afternoon, I skipped the river kayaking and opted for swiimming with the local children right there in the river. Yes, it's clean. OK so it's not on the scheduled tour, but I liked meeting the locals. If you are blessed, you may have opportunity to have Sheila, a wild toucan, alight on your arm, long enough to eat a few morsels of papaya you are holding. She can be coaxed, but it took me 6 attempts...once each morning and evening for three days. SO WORTH IT!! Lots of gorgeous flowering plants and tropical birds on the grounds.
