Belize to receive funds for Forensic lab and National Coast Guard

Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Said Musa and U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter
signed a Letter of Agreement for Financial Year 2005 today at the Prime
Minister's office in Belize City, Belize.

The Agreement provides additional funds of US$73,221 in support of
ongoing development of Belize Forensic Science Services and the Belize
National Coast Guard.

The funds will be used to obtain additional laboratory equipment and to
train personnel at the Forensic Science Laboratory and will improve the
justice system's capability to process investigations and prosecution of
criminal offenses.

Funds will also be used to strengthen the Belize Maritime Law
Enforcement through the purchase of communication and navigational
equipment.

Funds are made available through the Department of State's Bureau for
International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
