I had read somewhere, I believe on a review of a hotel, that someone had called some company before going to Belize that stocked up their fridge with groceries so that they were able to just cook in their room etc.

Has anyone heard of this?

We're hoping to save money & cook ourselves if possbile since we have a kitchen in our room...I'm not sure if its more expensive to do that, or just eat out? Or if there's places nearby where we could get groceries?

Grocries are expensive especially at the San Pedro Supermarket. And do you really want to stay in and cook. Except maybe breakfast, you'll really want to try the local cusine. Buy water, sodas, & beer from the distributor next ro the supermarket.

PLACES TO EAT:
Try to EAT Caribbean or Belizean food. You're not in Kansas anymore.
Try the conch ceveche (salsa), red snapper, coconut shrimp, & of course the lobster.

Inexpensive:
La Popular Bakery on Buccaneer St. (side street near Southwinds Realtor)
Master Lee's Take out on Buccaneer St across from bakery
Fried Chicken with fries for $5.00 BZ Also Chinese for about $7.50 (enough for 2)
Mickey's on Middle St.
George's Kitchen across from Woody's (Great Breakfasts) George is the chef, his wife, Maria is the waitress.
Reef Restaurant on Middle St.

Medium to High end:
Front Street Middle St. Coconut Drive
Celi's Elvi's Jade Garden
Fido's Cocina Caramba Victoria House
Wet Willie's Bar & Grill El Patio (Black Coral St??) Ramon's

Thank you for the suggestions. I had originally planned on cooking in the room here & there since we were staying north of the cut, but we've changed our hotel to being in town where we will have access to all of the restaurants without having to deal with a water taxi.

I am excited to try Caribbean/Belizean food~! I'm sure its wonderful! My dear boyfriend will be endulging in the lobster as much as he can haha.

My wife and I are comming down on Nov.19th for the first time and we are staying at the Blue Tang Inn.
I called them yesterday just to check on our reservation, when I was on the phone with them I asked if they would have a case of Belikin in the refrigator for us when we arive, they said NO PROBLEM.
I love this place already.

Thank for the info about www.lagniappe-belize.com. Now we can Squeezes in a dive or two on arrival. All I need is for someone to unpack my bag <grin>.
