I only have five more days until I hit the sandy shores in Belize. However, I just realized that my wife never got her passport changed when we were married four years ago. So now I am faced with using a passport expediting service unless someone can tell me that her old passport and some proof of the name change will be sufficient. If anyone has had this problem I would appreciate a recommendation on passport expediting services. Any responses as soon as possible would be appreciated.

We faced the same problem several years ago. Were told the passport had to be changed. At that time you could show up early morning at a major passport office (San Francisco for us) and the updated passport was available by that afternoon. I'm told that post 9/11 that is no longer possible and an expediting service is your only option. A friend who had run out of pages in his passport used one last month at a cost of about $300 US.

From one atty to another, thanks law. I was hoping that we could do like we did when we got married, because her passport says her maiden name, but at that time her name had been changed to the married name. So she took a certified, original seal marriage license to Belize and we had no problem. I was hoping we could do that again. Do you know why they would allow it then but not now, outside of the obvious 4 year time span between when we were married and now.

not sure - maybe because of the length of time between name change and visit. Anyway, seems it's a whole different ballgame since 9/11.

Can you get her name changed on the ticket? My ex travelled for a few years on her maiden name passport without problem as long as the tickets were in her maiden name.

yes that should work. so long as the passport and ticket match, and you usually can change the name on a ticket.

That would be the way to go, but I've been told it's nearly impossible to simply chg the name on an airline tickets these days, especially at last minute. Friend of mine tried to do that - airline said no dice. Had to buy new ticket under new/changed name (at the new price) and then get a credit back.

But worth a shot....

klc's correct. Read the fine print on your airline tickets. My guess is the expediting service fee will cost less than changing the ticket. Am also guessing JLowe's already taken care of this wink
Happy travels!
