Looney Man Offline
Can someone clarify when and why I may end up having to use the pull ferry?

I did a couple of searches and am a bit confused (but loved the jokes about the 'hand' ferry/fairy).

I will be staying at one of the Caye Villas (just north of Journeys End).

Of course I would not need to use the pull ferry if I was taking the Island Ferry or a private water taxi from my pier.

So, when might I need to use the pull ferry?

cool This is my first visit to A/C. Can't wait.

BTW...this board has been a big help n planning.

The only time you would need the ferry is if you decided to bike it into town... or be crazy enough to walk into town. Then of course you would need it to get back across to go back north.

It is worth the 2 minute ride though. eek

Bring a back brace if you decide to golf cart it up to Caye Villa's, it'll be a long and very rough ride. Better to use the water taxi service and rent a cart for around town. Once you do get into town there are a couple of bars and restaurants just north of the cut so you can still enjoy a ride across the ferry if your heart desires.

You must have a permit BEFORE you bring it.

All vehicles require a permit before arriving on the island. There are several people that use them to reach the north end. Just make sure it is WELL muffled. The smaller the better, something like a Suzuki DR200SE would be more than enough.

Ferry, A fun ride, and should be experienced at least once, before it is replaced with Golden Gate Bridge to the North, along with the new Corona Freeway. Also take cart to resort, and enjoy the path, and forget the beer, WOULD Be a waste of good beer, experience pot holes, ops, I mean the Grand Canyon's,bridge Should be forever gone, if construction is on schedule, end of Jan.
Have fun on Ambergris Caye, you will fall in love with it, and want to come back, again & again.

Out of curiosity, why did you book so far north? What activities do you have planned for your stay? How many in your group? How long will you be here? The answers to these questions will determine what kind of transportation you will want to invest in – and most of them are costly. An old fashioned peddle bike is probably the easiest mode of transportation for a week or so. Golf cart rental is expensive and the ride north is very rough. Mosquito repellant is a must.
If you just want to come into town and wander around walking is the way to go. There is nothing nicer than walking on the beach barefoot. If you just want to ‘see’ the pull ferry you can take a taxi cab for BZ $7.00 from central park, then walk back along the beach – about 10 minutes.
