My husband and I will be travelling to Belize for the first time in June and are planning to stay in Ambergris Caye. We are seriously considering staying at Ramons Village. Any feedback, suggestions?? My husband is looking to make a few dives and I will snorkel, plus we want to make an day trip or two to the mainland to see wildlife so any suggestions there too??
Thanks!!!

Ramon's probably has the best advertising in dive/snorkel adds and magazines in the states as well as caribbean travel mags. That's what usually attracts people to it.
They do have beautiful grounds and a nice beach area, however I was not impressed with their very basic rooms and at the prices they charge. There are many, many nicer places for the same or less price. However there is nothing really negative I can say about Ramon's. There is just better.

Friends of ours stayed at Ramons's last year. They enjoyed themselves, but say if they return, they will look at The Palms, which is right next door. I agree that you can get a better value for your dollar elsewhere.

Personally, why pay a lot for the same services, etc that you can receive somewhere else for a lot less $$. I think they are really cramped in and if you suffer from claustophobia... you're doomed.

I'll put my 2 cents in.. not to bash Ramon's.. but it looks great in the ads but doesn't live up to the hype in person.
Our first time in SP we saw the ads, looked on the web and though .. wow.. well, we picked banana beach instead and were SO GLAD.. Tim and his crew took great care of us the accomodations were top notch.. I couldn't say enough about them.. we'd be staying there next month, but they're booked up.. ..

Gina_cpa, I have to agree with phillytodd, bang for the buck and accomodations it really is hard to beat Banana beach, you get breakfast included, it is a 20 to 30 min. walk to town, and taxis are cheap too, the rooms are nice with full kitchens, and a separate bedroom, and living area and a nice pool and coommon area and a great beachfront...john in denver

Well I have to chime in here too. We have stayed twice at Ramons (beachfront) and loved it. For me if felt very island to stay in a thatched roof building. I wouldn't have traded my time there for anything. mobunny

As you can see Gina, opinions are like belly buttons.....perhaps if you give us a little more info: likes/dislikes, etc we can pick out some more lint.

I stayed at Ramon's and like many other mentioned here, wished I'd stayed somewhere else. The grounds were nice, the rooms small and cramped. There are many better values including the Palms next door. I too failed to listen to others on boards such as these and came home regretting not listening to them. I loved A/c, I know you can get a better value then staying at Ramons, this doesn't mean a dump, what it means is the Palms may be the same price, but you get a 3 room condo, or if you want to save money Banana beach is just as nice as Ramons, just not as well advertizied.

Banana Beach rules.... but we're doing this trip as a last minute thing so couldn't get an oceanfront room for the time we'll be there ( and if we're going to all the trouble of heading down there.. it's got to be oceanfront or nothing for me ).. so we're doing coconuts.. which is owned by Tim as well I think ( or managed.. )
super nice people..
