Anyone out there kind enough to feed my building excitement about Camp Belize? Be nice to hear from someone who's been in a previous year. How many people are usually at the shows? Teehee yeeehawwwwww!

Yep, I've seen Jerry Jeff perform over the last 30 years here and there. Last few have been in more contained venues with way too many people sitting. Happy, loud and fun sounds good. Thanks

I've attended week 2 for the last 2 years and had a great time. I would guess around 200 people are there but I may be way off. The dock was full anyway. This year I'm attending both weeks...see you there! 11 more days until "Island time".

Wow, 2 weeks - that's the way to do it. With just one week, I am already running out of days to do everything we want to do. I assume you've done some of the Ruins, etc. If you had to narrow down the tours, do you have suggestions as to your favorite? We weren't going to do the zoo but keep hearing it is great....we've got fishermen in toe so they're only going to be coerced off the water for a few non fishing adventures.

There are so many fun things you can't do them all in one trip. Lamanai is a nice day trip. The zoo is awesome, been there twice and am sure I'll do it again. If you have several days it's great to go to San Ignacio and then over to ruins in Tikal in Guatamala (done that twice). The Xunantunich ruins in San Ignacio are nice and I hear that Caracol is supposed to be nice now...it's on my list for this trip. The ATM cave is awesome if you make it to San Ignacio (and like adventure...it's definately a work out). I've been down to Placencia and Gales Point and loved them both. Caye Caulker is a great day trip from San Pedro. I started coming to Belize 12 years ago and there are lots of things I still haven't done ...and lots of things that I like so much that I want to do again and again. If you're short on time I'd do day trips to Lamanai,Caye Caulker, and the zoo if you have time. It's hard to go very far when you're doing the concerts. I'd love to meet you for a drink or something and talk about things some more. PM me if you want to get together. You're goint go love Belize...
Only 9 more days until Island time....

I PM'd! I have a new drinking buddy in AC! Yeah, I'm up in the air about the zoo, I assume it's a long day - my group is not much in to spending a lot of time on a bus. I think we definately will do Lamanai and hopefully get to see a good bit of river life. I'm hoping this won't be our only trip to ac and 1 week is so short...we do have a kayak head on our trip so we want to rent some and explore a little on our on. I know there's got to be at least 3 days of fishing for the guys and the girls will want to at least do a reef fishing trip. I think we ought to snorkle with a guide at least one trip. And, I just want a day to explore the island. Sounds like we should have planned on a 2 weeker!!

Consider one of the combo day trips. Several do a fishing/snorkeling/beach barbeque day. It's on our to do list for the next trip!

Also fun to combine snorkling with a trip to Caye Caulker. People on the board talk a lot about doing a snorkling trip and beach bar-b-q with Tulu. I haven't done that yet but sounds like fun.

Our first Camp so don't know if he's solo or w/band. A special guest would be too fun. I do know shows are Mon, Thurs and Sat but could change due to weather. I read on this board that some folks have bought "tickets" at door but you get a "laminate" to wear to get in so I'm not sure about the last minute thing. However, Week 1 isn't sold out so would think you could buy a laminate there. Might want to call Tried and True to be sure. One more week!!!! See you at Wet Willies!!!

Any suggestions or am I so late as to grab 1st thing I can. Is there a camp ground there.
Whats the best way to get from Belize City to AC.
I may have an extra ticket for second week too.

Lots of good info on this board from many good people in the know. I'm certainly not in the know but I've learned alot here. Try a search on camping and your other questions and look at some of the replies to other threads about lodging. Check out the maps on the home page too to get an idea where some of the recommended places are. Have fun week 2!!!

I'm heading down for week one...first time down there. Does anyone have a good idea of how many people will be at the shows? I see above that somebody estimates around 200...Is that accurate? Wet Willies is the "social headquarters," is there another great place where everyone is meeting? I'm going to be there with a bunch of friends to see the shows and also to get married. Heck of a honeymoon! We're arriving on the 27th...where's the pre-party going to be? smile

Tarbaby...Sounds like a plan, count me in! When I was sick and my friend sold my concert ticket one night he "loaned" the laminate to them and then picked it up from them after the concert. I'm frantically getting ready for my trip so haven't been on the board as often as usual. Look forward to meeting all of you. (I'm bringing my iPod with 98 Jerry Jeff songs just in case 6 concerts aren't enough.) Head for the airport in 32 hours...guess I should pack...Yipee!

Not unusual that you don't know who he is. He wrote Mr. Bojangles but has written a whole lot of great music - story telling types of songs - and puts on a great show. Everything from rock and roll, to Texas two step, to ballads. Has a house in AC now and put out a cd about zeeislands. You can order his stuff at jerryjeff.com. Used to hang out a lot with a guy named Buffet. Get "Navajo Rug" or "Gypsy Songman" and welcome to the Gonzo experience!!

We went to see JJW when he was here in VA last summer. Great show. It was a benefit for children, and a great night.
Have his CD Cowboy Boots & Bathing Suits in every vehicle we own...when the traffic gets to be too much, he's there to take us back to AC. I don't think I'm his biggest fan, but I do appreciate his work. Buffett, however, is another story....

A few months ago a friend told me, "next time JJ comes to town, I'd like to go" (knowing in fact that I would be going...). So, checked his concert schedule on his website, read about Camp Belize and before we knew it, we were planning the trip to AC. I burned cd's for my traveling companions to prime their ear (most of them weren't familiar w/him either) and have dug out pictures from an early concert I saw in 1982 to show him, why I'm not sure, but this may be a sign that I may be one of his biggest fans...like Buffet a whole lot too - one of our travelers is a major Parrot Head - named his dog Buffet, yadayda. This is going to be soooo fun.

leo56---No official "campground" in or within close proximity to San Pedro. Pedro's Inn is a backpacker's hostel and is GREAT!!!for the money and clean, clean, clean. Also is a building and OFF of the ground with beds, bath, bar, bbq, internet, cable, etc. BEST deal on the island at I believe $12usd a night--extra for the bbq. He's on this board so you can PM Pedro1 for reservations, etc.
His place is the ONLY way to camp--but it really isn't camping at all. cool

Isn't it funny how you have to explain JJW to the folks that have never heard of him.
You have to say Bojangles, and thats mostly because of Nitty Gritty.
There is such a body of work that somehow gets under the radar and creates all of us contrarians to ordinarians.Thank God or the administrator of evoloution, what ever you follow that you know JJW.
I saw my first show in a small Texas town in 75. I got hooked up with a bunch of pot smokin hippie medics from Ft Sill OK and we drove a couple hours to hear a Red Neck Mother. The only thing we had in common was the red in our eyes matched the red on the back of his neck.
Then he sang Stewball in the dressing room befor the show and I've enjoyed 30 years of educated country music since then.
I'm looking forward to the JJW Mecca episode in AC.
Those Full moons still drive me wild

Smallish world! An old buddy of mine was stationed in Ft Hood, caught a show by JJW somewhere in Tx, mailed me a letter that said I had to go out and buy Viva Terlinqua. After I convinced the guy at the store that I was sure my friend wasn't talking about Junior Walker and the Allstars, I located VT and was hooked. Now ain't that funny you found him about the same time...same show? I wonderrr! Bad news, I don't think we get a full moon - I checked and we're a crescent for that week. Bet it'll be a big a#* crescent though! Wait, were you quoting a song? Probably and I'm blah blah blahing about the lunar phase! Glad to find another devote. Just pray the rain stops for a while...

So good to hear all of you JJW fans. I think I appreciate Jerry Jeff's song writing most of all. Some of my favorite songs are not at all well known...and he probably won't sing a lot of them at the concerts. I love the one about "life is just a leap of faith"...about the guy that's always jumping off the roof because he thinks he can fly "and always trust your cape" and the ones he wrote to his wife, Susan and his two children are really awesome. Some wonderful love songs. And the funny ones like the one about "two Jerry Jeffs"...I could go on and on. My daughter saw him in concert in Texas and told me how she liked him and then when I saw he was putting on shows in Belize I signed up because I had been coming to Belize off and on for 12 years anyway. I haven't seen him in concert except for the last 2 years in San Pedro. This is my 3rd. year so I'm getting to be a real "Groupie" I guess. I'd love to go to Gruene Hall,TX for the birthday bash concerts someday. I leave to go to the airport at 6:30 a.m....10.5 hours and I'M STILL NOT READY so why am I on this freakin message board...I'm addicted!!!!
