Hi everyone. I'm planning a trip to AC end of Feb and this message board has been a huge help. So first of all, thank you! The one question that I haven't seen posted is this...is there a dive shop that rents prescription masks for snorkeling? I love to snorkel, unfortunately I wear strong glasses and need a 6.0-6.5 mask to see. Any suggestions?

One other quick question...do you recommend booking through Belize discounts to save a few dollars, or better to book direct? I'm wary of discount services, but would like save some money for cocktails! wink

Hulbby doesn't snorkle often enough to purchase a RX mask, so for what it's worth here's his tip: he takes an old pair of glasses and just folds them into the snorkle mask - he says it works great.

Yep, I've tried that trick (Caymans, PR, Puerto Vallarta)...unfortunately its never worked for me so I'm at the mercy of finding a RX mask. Hmmm.

We (Protech) will have some generic prescription masks by then, so we could help you. But you'd be MUCH better off getting prescription lenses fitted in your own mask - you've just about got time to do it.

Do go with the prescription mask. It is well worth it. Think about how much you are willing to spend on air fare, hotels, meals, etc. Now, what small percent of that will a Rx mask cost? Having your own mask and snorkel is priceless.

I bought a prescription mask for my son at a dive shop in Dallas. I think it was around $150.00 and had to be the two lens type mask as opposed to the open single face plate. Bring in your presription. I waited I believe about ten days for it to be ready.

Just get your prescription from your eye doc and take it to your local dive retail store. They should be able to do it. It's about $35-50 extra. That's what we did. You'll actually be able to see the fish.
