For those of you reading this who do not live in Belize ........ the single most helpful and loving thing you can do is KEEP COMING HERE FOR VACATIONS. Donations are fantastic short solutions to suffering and need, and for that everyone is genuinely and deeply greatful - this is not meant to belittle that effort, as we need that very much too. Disasters tend to get people excited and arouse compassion for a short while .......... when the food is distributed and roofs are repaired everybody needs to EARN A LIVING - and that is where our overseas friends can be the biggest help. Book a trip - bring your friends - help provide JOBS and NORMALCY. ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY YOU KNOW WHO FEELS THE URGE TO HELP TO BOOK THEIR NEXT VACATION IN BELIZE. We are a sturdy community - given a chance to get back to work we WILL.

We will be back for vacation in March and we have been telling everyone we know how wonderful Belize is and that they must vacation there. This will be our 3rd trip.
Our hearts go out to everyone that was affected by the Hurricane. We love your beautiful country and no Hurricane will keep us away!!!!!!

How true, how true. I have my 5th trip scheduled for November and plan to bring a group down in March.
The sense of community is one of the attractions. I tell everyone about the people of Belize. My friends called the Belize Ambassador.

Hey Diane: WOW - I didn't know you were still in Belize, it's been like 10 years since I've seen you in the old Southwind days... but I just wanted to second the motion on your thoughtful post! Totally agreed - it's probably hard to imagine, but Belize escaped the big storms for over 30 years and just seems to have had a run of bad luck in the past couple of years.

I think it is worthwhile to underscore the community spirit and unification in the Belizean community in times of crisis and I hope that spirit of hospitality is even more inviting to travelers and tourists in the big scheme of things... I was in St. Croix during Hugo in the 80's and there was horrible looting and street violence in the aftermath. I'm not in Belize right now, but I haven't heard anything of that nature in the reports. Belize, truly, is a land of enchantment that we are eager to see back on it's feet and bustling in peace and prosperity!

If there are still planes flying to Belize, I will be there!
See you end of November, Diane!

This is exactly what the U.S. is saying to everybody else due to the terroists attacks. It is good that we all feel such strong support for our countries. I will, however, make my next vacation down to Belize because I loved it so much last time.
