Harriet - I'll speak to you privately. But thanks for that very positive suggestion. Nothing will bring Minet back, but if the evil people who have done this can be prevented from doing it again that will be an achievement. The photo wasn't mine, but I'm really grateful to my good friends Mo & Irm for posting it. If someone can tell me how, I'd like to post one of her when she was really tiny, and as cute as can be. And another of her catching ice cream!
As you can imagine, I'm really upset about this. My own loss of course, but she was such a lovely dog - she didn't deserve this. Only evil and brutal people could even contemplate doing such a thing, and I hope that the person behind it can be publicly identified and censured.
Minet's short life - she was just three when she died - started when she was dumped in a cardboard box to die at around two weeks old. Luckily Isela Duran, who worked for us at that time, was passing by and heard a noise. Minet then had months of nurturing by Isela until she was well established, and ended up a very healthy, well balanced and lovely dog.
So I doubt, Harriet, whether Minet and Grita were cousins, as Minet didn't start life on the island. But she took on the mantle of "island dog" to perfection.
I meant to add - if anyone else has photos of Minet that they'd like to share, then if they can send them to me I'll set up a page on our website. I'm on peter@protechdive.com and the website is
www.protechdive.com.
