Thank you all for your wishes. Minet was a wonderful dog, very gentle & loving, trusting and friendly, intelligent and a very good judge of human nature. If she growled and snarled at someone (all she would ever do - she would never have hurt anyone or any other creature) it was because she sensed they would be nasty to her. I never knew her to be wrong.

My problem is not in finding who did it. Every condo owner at BYC is in no doubt as to who was behind it, and has little doubt as to who did the deed. The problem is of course total lack of evidence. I don't think there's any point in going to the police, as they don't care about animal welfare, and condone dog poisoning by the town board. Even if they were motivated to act they would be paid off.

Peter, truly sorry for your loss, Minet was a great, loving dog. i would try to pursue the caning of these two people, like they do in Singapore.

I am truly sorry, Peter. This is so sad and senseless. I hope that what goes around, comes around.

That is the dirtiest, rottenest and most cowardly expression of hate a human being could conjure against the PERSON with whom there is disagreement. Blaspheme the guilty ones all over the country!

I would like to convey my heartfelt sympathy at the loss of Minet. As I have spent many a happy day with her at the Belize Yacht Club pool, I can attest to her incredibly sweet and friendly ways. She was just so content to nap under the hammocks or keep you company next to your lounge chair. The sad news of her death just broke my heart and sickens me to no end. She was a good friend and will be dearly missed by many.

Peter – I would encourage you to rethink the police report. When we had the series of poisonings here on the north we did report it to the police. They came out and were most thorough in their inspection. We did find empty bags and turned them in. The police even checked with the stores that sold that brand to see who was buying it.
Since Chief Sabal and his second in command, Dennis Myles have been here on the island there has been a big change in the police department.
You have nothing to loose by reporting it.
Thanks for posting the picture of Minet. Since there are only so many family of dogs here on the island I’m sure my potlicker, Grita, was one of Minet’s cousins. Grita is the barbitch at Coco Locos Bar.

Harriet - I'll speak to you privately. But thanks for that very positive suggestion. Nothing will bring Minet back, but if the evil people who have done this can be prevented from doing it again that will be an achievement. The photo wasn't mine, but I'm really grateful to my good friends Mo & Irm for posting it. If someone can tell me how, I'd like to post one of her when she was really tiny, and as cute as can be. And another of her catching ice cream!

As you can imagine, I'm really upset about this. My own loss of course, but she was such a lovely dog - she didn't deserve this. Only evil and brutal people could even contemplate doing such a thing, and I hope that the person behind it can be publicly identified and censured.

Minet's short life - she was just three when she died - started when she was dumped in a cardboard box to die at around two weeks old. Luckily Isela Duran, who worked for us at that time, was passing by and heard a noise. Minet then had months of nurturing by Isela until she was well established, and ended up a very healthy, well balanced and lovely dog.

So I doubt, Harriet, whether Minet and Grita were cousins, as Minet didn't start life on the island. But she took on the mantle of "island dog" to perfection.

I meant to add - if anyone else has photos of Minet that they'd like to share, then if they can send them to me I'll set up a page on our website. I'm on peter@protechdive.com and the website is www.protechdive.com.

Pedro, so sorry for your loss! It sounds like doggie heaven will be hers..I sure love my pet and would do anything to justify this loss if you know who did this cowardly crime.
