OK - letting my ignorance be displayed yet again...

I know nothing about the industry... so - are pearls harvested and available in Belize?

(Other than the pearls of wisdom on this board of course!) laugh

Conch pearls are rare and found by conch divers from time to time. They used to be plentiful when locals could walk out into the sea, lift a bit of seagrass and harvest lobster right from their front yard. They range from light pink to bright fuscia and are irregular in shape like a freshwater pearl. If someone approaches you with a pink or white perfectly spherical shaped pearl, its probably been carved (by man) from a conch shell.

Thanks for the tip Libby - we didn't make it very far up north last time we were on AC. We'll make time for it this time though.
