We're very excited about visting AC for the first time later this month. I would like to bring back (to the States) a plant as a gift for a birthday party on the day we return. Does anyone know how I can bring plants through customs, or if it's even allowed? I've seen shops that sell plants prepackaged with customs seals ready to go. Thanks!

You would need to check with US Customs on that one. Generally you are not allowed to bring plants, fruit, veggies, that sort of thing over. It may be more trouble than its worth.

Also, most of the plants they sell here can be bought at home depot for 1/2 the price.

You won't see that kind of shop in Belize (that sells pre-packed plants.)

Buy a Maya basket, lightweight, hand made and legal.

You can get some lovely hardwood items here - maybe one of those?

At one store last 8/05 I saw the most amazing woodwork. I think they are located on Middle Street. The most intricate pieces of different colors of hardwood put together in a piece of artwork. Stunning..A very nice and authenic gift for the offering..

Last I knew, absolutely No Agricultural products were allowed into the USA. This incudes seeds. My brother had forgotten some pepita seeds were in his pack, and they were confiscated & he was searched by US Customs.

Lots of shells, jewelry, woodworking & pottery items to choose from, maybe a decorative container for a plant would suffice for your gift.
Belize it!
