No charge for the product or service. No stipulations unless they're made up front. You want it, it's yours for the asking.

A wise man once told me, "There are things that are free, and things that you pay for. the things you pay for are generally cheaper."

I can pretty much do what I want, so long as it falls within the law and/or generally accepted social mores. Especially since the data collected on me (like those really confidential phone numbers I dial ) can't be assembled by and shared among spooks who might use it to target me for harrassment by jackbooted stormtroopers. Do I win?

the leather ones are quite a bit more expensive, but then the vinyl won't get you targetted by the enviromentalists. They don't have the impact tho, do they?
Just a conversation overheard. Honest.

Pedro2, it depends on the context.
i.e. There's no free lunch; free to be myself; Happy meal comes with a free pop; Smoke free zone; free trade; free gift with purchase; Free at last, Free at last; free like a bird; you are free to walk away from this fabulous offer, however, should you so choose to do so . . .

I was thinking of pre-conditions. For example, I could offer free diving to anyone over 40 who dives with both their parents. I'd get a few takers, but my money would be pretty safe. Or, speaking purely hypothetically, I might offer a small pizza free so long as you bought a large pizza at the same time. To my mind neither of these is "free" as each has an onerous pre-condition.

Pedro2, pre-condition does not matter if what you offer is indeed free. For instance, 1 day dive free if you purchase 2days. Just don't raise the price of the 2 days to cover 3 days. Just my thought.

Hmmm. I think of free in different terms. Free to be who God designed me to be without oppression from other's expectations, free from fear of the wrath of God;
and free to speak my mind against my government if I think they're wrong about something, free to read whatever I want, free to choose my profession, etc...you get the idea.

pedro - as a small business owner (well, till i liquidated it to move to AC), people generally like to feel like they are getting something extra. the high end makeup counters get ya everytime with their "free gift with purchase". Its not ACTUALLY free, but i makes me buy at that time. The consumers perception that they are actually making out better, even if they are not, is often the impetous behind the buy. think of how many times you bought 2 for 1's on some item...deodorant, chips, whatever. you didnt really need two, frankly you might not have needed one...but it still makes you want to buy cause "no one can pass up a good deal". Having said all that, i think you need to be careful that you dont shoot yourself in the foot. i think that you are right that it needs to be a fairly onerous offer lest people just wait for the 'special' in order to buy at all. FOr example, there are certain stores in the states that ALWAYS run a sale...you NEVER pay "full price" cause you know in a week it will be on sale. The retailer has essentially trained the consumer to be a wee bit patient, and they will save (or at least have the perception of saving). not sure if this is the opinion you were after, but its the one ya got!

Is it just me, or have you all just proved my point, there ain't no such thing as free - someone's paying for it somewhere! That's true whether we're talking commercial goods and/or services, or political/religious freedom. Nothing is free.

Pedro2- I think "free" is a difficult subject when it comes to business. Too much "Free" and the consumer realizes you can't keep providing the service without increasing the "regular" prices. I think at this stage they'd rather do without the "free" and pay a more realistic price for all services involved. Its the perception of "increased value" that will entice action and end up with a sale. Its the belief that you are paying a "fair" price and that a company is willing to throw in a little extra in appreciation for your business. For me its the "package deal" or the "buy 10 get one free" punchcard when I buy my Latte' that carries the most weight. Its the "airline miles" that lured me to use a Bank of America Visa Card. Its the little extra discount at the grocery store for being a "club member".

The best thing for you to do is if a person does two dives a day then give him a 10% discount for a set number of days. Other operatorats do this. I was very surprized you did not.

10%?!? I'm used to getting more than a 10% discount for a block of dives.
That said, a block of dives is 10+, not 2+.

There was a sign in a pub that said "FREE BEER TOMORROW" so I went back the next day. The sign was still there "FREE BEER TOMORROW" Does that mean nothing is free? or tomorrow never comes? There is nothing like free advise,,, It's usually worth what you pay for it! :rolleyes:
