Costa Maya Festival Update!
The Costa Maya Festival already had its international performer booked for this year’s spectacular show, but a day before the down-payment check was sent it was announced that the performer was pregnant.
Yes, Ana Barbara officially confirmed to the Mexican media that she was indeed two months pregnant. Thus the Costa Maya committee was forced to cancel her booking even though she was still accepting show dates up until August. So unfortunately, the committee’s top pick, Ana Barbara, will not be making it to the festival this year, maybe next year!
So now the committee is scrambling to get another list of possible celebrities that they can choose from. On the list there is Cristian Castro, Ivy Queen, Yahir, Alejandra Guzman, Alicia Villareal, Jaguares, among others. If you have any suggestion, tell any one of the committee members your favorite pick; there is still time.
Other than this minor setback, the festival preparations are in full gear. Confirmed is the participation of all seven beauty queens for the Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant - except for Miss Belize Costa Maya. As soon as the participating countries (Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica) send in their candidates’ photo and information, Ambergris Today Newspaper will be presenting them to you.
This year the contestants will again be hosted by our sister city of Chetumal, Q. Roo. with an even larger reception than last year. Last year the ladies were treated with a breakfast reception at the Holiday Inn and toured Chetumal’s museum, as well as the scenic sites of Bacalar, just minutes away from Chetumal. This year officials in Chetumal have invited the Costa Maya committee to take the beauty queens for an over night stay at the sister city, where they will host and present the ladies at a gala reception. This will be a great boost to the Costa Maya Festival and much publicity for the festival and San Pedro.
More updates will be coming soon, as well a list of sponsors already showing their support for the festival. Remember that the San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival will take place from August 3 to August 6, 2006! http://www.ambergristoday.com/
