It's raining - a LOT.
Belize Weather Service reports that it rained 4.3 inches last night at the Internatinoal Airport. We must have had that much out here on the island last night too. It keeps coming down steadily this morning. The boats at the nearby piers look a little tipsy, but not yet sunk.
No indications that this will let up today - hopefully by Sunday we will see blue skies again. Last year at this time we were experiencing a record-breaking drought.
Flood warnings have been issued for Stann Creek and Toledo.

I'm loving the rain, but not looking forward to the roads. Some days I wish I worked from home!

On the bright side, the plants are looking fantastic.

I'll be ready for the sunshine by sunday.

Oh Bulls#!t Pedro1, Funny I was just about eaten alive as I drove passed your "inn" last week. Are you using the mosquitos as security around your property because I did not have a problem anywhere else in town?

2 miles North of Cut -SimonB -as usual useless comments-we have very few mosquitos-due to placing oil in the new lake, and the burning of coconut husks which keeps the few survivors away-I am thinking of charging extra as we now are able to park boats-fortunately neither of you have the balls to come in and see what an air conditioned/no flies/no mosquitos/no sand fleas bar and bistro actually looks and feels like.
I will be very interested in your comments about the other bars, and restaurants that have NOT suffered from the fly/mosquito/sand flea as most are suffering or is it that you both have not visited any bars this or last week

Oh well, wishfull thinking on my part. I was hoping some of beachboy's sense of humour would rub off. Noticed that you even had him delete his post about needing a skiff to get to work.

There are many ways to invite one to one's establishment but continually asking someone to show their balls is probably not the most effective.

I also tend not to spend my life in bars so you're right I can't help you on your other request.

Looks like it's here! It's been raining a lot since last night, and the streets are now flooded. Hurricane warnings from just south of us (Longboat Key) to the Panhandle. Hopefully, that means Belize will clear out nicely, as we are headed that way Saturday for 2 weeks, provided there's no real damage here! We'll be on the Island the 22nd--Anyone else?

Any decent afterbite will work for the mozzies and baby oil works wonders for keeping the sand flies at bay.

There is a locally made hemp based product that "has proved effective in combating tenacious toe fungus, bee stings, heat rash, sun burn and pica-pica stings." No claims on mosquito bites though.

SIN, you're right I do have cabin fever, my cart is back in the shop yet again after being on the road for only 1.5 days. Nothing like breaking down in the pouring rain to put a damper on the weekend.

I visited a few bars while there (no bites) As for the balls to come in and see, Why would I want to go into your bar when there are so many nicer places to go with better views, same drinks, more food choices and no wanker owner? You won't find my boat parked outside your coconut husk burning mosquito breeding ground. mad

When I was down in SP in April, the mosquitos weren't bad at all... has it gotten worse with the rain?? When I was in Trinidad I got bitten up by mosquitos, sandfleas and I think chiggers. It itches like crazy still (only been a week since I've been back). I've been using Ivy-Dry, and Lanacane to help with the itch, but it won't go away fast enough. Damn bugs!!!!! mad

Ever try Sting-Kill. It's packaged in a pencil type applicator or foil wrapped wipes. It's effective on stings and bites from bees, wasps, mosquitoes, jellyfish, chiggers, black flies, fire ants and spiders.

Ok I got some tips on how to deal with mosquito bites and figured I would share.

Make a paste of water and baking soda...rub on bites. Also putting scotch tape on the bites is supposed to make them stop itching as well.

'skin so soft' lotion (from I think it is Avon) works well too

mix together some water and some meat tenderizer. Make paste of the stuff, applied it to the bite, and within a very short time the swelling will be gone.

Traumed or Traumeel. (It's been sold under both names.) For the bug bite and bruise purposes, it's best to have the cream formula that they sell in the tube. It is absolutely amazing at reducing swelling of all kinds.

Applying calamine lotion or a 1% hydrocortisone cream to the area of the bite a few times a day.

taking a tablet of vitamin b-1 2x daily to repel mosquito’s

using rubbing alcohol

mint toothpaste or lemon juice on the bite will reduce itching.

take garlic capsules, apparently they hate the odour secreted though your pores

If bitten then put vinegar in a cloth and lay on the bite it is safe and stops the sting and swelling...

...My thought it may be time to get a mosquito net for over the bed lol.

A good way to get rid of mosquito welts and itch quickly is take a hot shower and make sure to bathe the affected areas with water as hot as you can stand.

If the itching keeps you up at night, take a Benedryl (or diphenhydramine is the generic name). It helps you go to sleep, and it is an anti-histamine that helps decrease itching. Oral medications usually help with itching due to rashes better than topical creams. So, for during the day, try non-drowsy oral antihistamines, such as Claritin (or loratidine is the generic name). They should help take the edge off the itching. I also agree with the topical corticosteroid too (hydorcortizone cream) to decrease swelling and help clear the bite sooner. This advice from a medical perspective. I don't know home remidies, but I did go to school to be a PA.
