Getting it live on Love FM -- Callers saying that NEMO is locking materials up in their
warehouses and some people that really need stuff are not getting stuff.
This is resulting in a lot of people trying to deliver direct -- and much
"duplication" and confusion.
Many volunteer workers came from Belize City to rebuild -- but NEMO will
not release supplies for building. After four days of waiting around --
many are heading back home. And it will be hard to get workers when NEMO
finally decides to get going.
So, the caller says -- too much stuff going to the easy to reach villages -- not enough to the bush villages -- everything is poorly organized --
tempers flaring in all directions.
What is needed -- as always -- is a clear accounting trail of donations --
where they end up.
Latest -- concerned caller says NEMO has to distribute equally among
villages -- nothing is getting to the villages in the deep South that needs
it the most.
Some villages -- those with road access -- are being buried in goods.
Next caller -- Who ended up with the donated five gallon water containers?
Very important we get these containers -- pipes have been broken -- need
water containers -- we know they were sent -- where are they (Placencia)
Food situation OK -- clean up coming along well -- CISCO is there with
heavy equipment. Many volunteers -- but need better organization -- foremen
are required -- Placencia.
Again -- appeal for water containers --
Richard -- the announcer -- immediately offers two five gallon water
containers to ship down.
More calls for people "that really need food" -- this case -- Trial Village.
"They have addressed the MEMO distribution problems at PG by sending BEL
quartermasters down. Promising quick solution to these problems."
Should be BDF -- Belize Defense force --
Another call in -- "DEMO" is sending a team to the Trial area right now!!
(DEMO -- not NEMO - -what is DEMO??)
Caller from PG complaining about NEMO -- "playing with the needs of the poor"
Belize is the only country where you have to "borrow" donated money at 8.5%!!
The man complains this is the only country in Central America doing this!
(Well, now we know where the big donations are going)
Also not correct -- they give only to who they want -- they restrict
donations to "friends" -- "This is something Belizean people have to address"
How much millions have been "missed" -- we should not be crying for help 4
or 5 days later -- the GOB is preying on the poor people!
Borrowing hurricane money to pay back!! This is a shame on the country and
a shame on the people of Belize for letting it be this way --
I agree with the previous caller!!
>From PG -- mentions 7 villages "abandoned" by NEMO -- he suspects due to
ethnic "feelings" -- this has to stop.
Seine Bite is OK -- lots of relief --
36 villages yesterday received emergency food rations yesterday plus an
additional 34 today will today. NEMO
So it is not all mayhem!
They are organizing a large dance/concert with all the most popular bands
donating their efforts to raise contributions -- $5.00 per adult -- $2.00
per children -- all money to go to relief. About ten major bands have
Caller from San Jose -- no food -- not enough -- man points out that the
villages down South need food!
He also mentions that villages not greatly affected -- but with good road
access -- are piled in relief food.
(The problem is delivery I imagine -- the helicopters have a small pay load
-- we need to organize volunteers into back-packing -- well -- probably
next hurricane we will know better)
Two more helicopters -- one from Honduras -- and one more from Mexico.
Richard just mentioning that some one already has called to pick up the two
5 gallon water containers.
(In Cayo Espanto rebuild -- finding containers for water, fuels -- was the
major headache -- we should be stockpiling those five gallon and larger
collapsible nylon containers -- a few thousand at least -- well with time
-- we should learn all this)
At the present rate of 3 hurricanes per four years time we are not lacking
They have addressed the MEMO distribution problems at PG by sending BEL
quartermasters down. Promising quick solution to these problems.
Villager calling for food to get delivered -- calling from Dangriga --
advised to go to Red Cross. (He trecked into Dangriga to find help for his
He went to police headquarters for help -- they told him no NEMO help in DG
-- so he phoned the radio.
The "super" concert is on the roll now. Coke is donating all profits it
makes from beverage sales.
A prestigious accounting firm has donated its services to closely monitor
all monies collected with full accounting of where it goes and how it is used.
end for now
Extra contributions are welcomed. https://secure.nameservers.com/ambergriscaye.com/placencia/
