Hi All! I'll be in san pedro in dec and jan and my friend and i are going to check out placencia for a couple days...any suggestions on where to stay in the village would be great (decent place but on a budget). Also if any suggestions on things to check out and do while we are there would be appreciated as well. thanks!

My wife and I have stayed at Barnicle Bills Beach Bungalows in Maya Beach just north of Placencia on three different occasions. It is a great place! Bill and Adrianne are great hosts, they can set you up for anything that you might be looking for.

I second Barnacle Bills. Stayed there about 2 months ago. Beautiful beach, very private, excellent cabanas, fully stocked.

Ranguana is brilliant - right on the beach, between $60-80 per night - google Ranguana Belize and it will come up -

I would say you probably should book in advance. Some of these places only have 2 or 4 rooms. January can be very busy...

January, yes, book in advance. Branicle Bills I believe requires a five night minimum stay I would e-mail them and ask.

You can: take tour of Monkey River, go on a snorkel trip, or scuba, or day-sail. You can go on a tour of Cockscomb Basin, cave tubing, Mayan ruins. Lots of the bars have nightly games and activities: horseshoe competition, karoake, chicken drop etc.

Placencia is a peninsula about 14 miles long..maybe longer.
Placencia village is at the southern tip of the peninsula.

Catdance62 listed some great tours and adventures smile We have done many of them and some more than once.

Great place and totally different than Ambergris Caye.
The real Belize is mainland. Belizeans vacation on Ambergris Caye at holiday time smile

Use your eyes, you will see so much more on the mainland. Bring a book for down time. Enjoy!

I would definetly recomend booking in advance. I just started thinking about our trip and was surprised to see Ranguana was almost booked for the month of Feb. Try and make it for two or three nights just to get a nice feel for the Village. Food is mostly average but the people are above. Sunday afternoon//evening is a great time at Barefoot Beach Bar. Enjoy your stay and feel free to PM for more info- Duane
