Michelle just passed east of Isla Juventude with her weaker side. Cayo Largo is being smashed by 135mph sustained winds. She looked to be turning North this morning, but has corrected back NE with the approaching front to her west.
The storm will make a Cuba landfall with full 135mph winds 950MB between Bay of Pigs and the populated city of Cienfuegos in a few hours. Michelle was a strange one with a wildly veering track and covered eye for such a powerful cyclone. Bay of Pigs could get a 20 foot surge and probably is right now!
If she hadn't gone east all day yesterday I would have been in trouble. I was panicking friday night when she headed for the Yucatan Channel, but then reversed and went east (whew)...
NHC recovers her to a minimal hurricane after crossing Cuba and into the Bahamas south of Florida. Then NE out to sea...
