135mph 950 millibar category 4 hurricane Michelle is bearing down for a direct hit on the Bay of Pigs, Cuba. Hurricane winds are being channeled at their maximum potential directly up the enclosed bay. The eye will pass directly over it in about an hour. Surge is currently 12 to 18 feet with over 20 feet possible.

Michelle will pass in a NE direction over Cuba and exit towards the Bahamas south of Florida.

The east 135mph eyewall has just smashed into Cayo Largo and the eye is presently over its west end. The eye passed directly over Cayo Rosario, Cuba.

Reporting Station Cayo Largo, Cuba reported 18 foot surge swept over Cay.

[edit] 9pm: Storm holding own over land at 125mph with forward bands taking foot in Gulf Stream! Reorganization should be quick and powerful. Nassau, Bahamas - south Andros in track. Worst storm in Cuba since 1932!

Caymans roughed up by fringe. Photos - accounts:
