The jaguar at Mata Grande is a fairly good sized male ozelot. I have seen him around our house this year and last year. Beautiful! Too bad they are about to completely and brutally clear approx. 20 acres towards the lagoon at Mata Grande. No more ozelot here after that for sure frown

As best I can recall, wen the Belize Zoo did a comprehensive scat collection on the northern portion of Ambergris they found a few species of smaller cats. Contact them for the full list. Jaguars require more territory and food than Ambergris offers. But hey, I could be wrong, ask the Zoo. Or Merv.

Weile,
Who is clearing? Where? For what purpose? E-mail me if you wish. Thanks.

Brutaly cleared is the right term, they left almost nothing standing. Doesn't make much sense.

There's plenty of natural pry for a Jaguar on N.A. Lots of caye deer, wild pigs.

C.U.: I don't know what you're talking about. It hasn't been cleared yet.

Axe: It is approx. 4.5 to 5 miles north of town.

KC: The bush behind us, from just south of Caye Villas to somewhere between Mata Grande Studios and Rojo, starting 600 feet from the beach and going all the way to the lagoon. Has been subdivided into approx. 100 x 130 lots, that the owner maybe thinks will sell faster if they look like a desert. The good news is that things grow so fast up here that they will get back to normal long before they are sold... and don't worry, the "old" Mata Grande remains one of the most gorgeous spots on the island with lush vegetation, lots of flowers and beautiful beaches (where they are kept clean).
