For those who are interested...
I have just returned from my visit to the south-Toledo and Stann Creek. I dropped off eight large suitcases of donated clothes to Sister in Big Falls at the clinic. I had a chance to go around and briefly talk to some people in the villages that were affected by Iris. I also took pictures which I will post on here soon.
While I was relieved to see that most seemed well, I was disheartened by the tension between the families in the village. Moreso than before, they are in competition with each other and wrote many notes asking for just about anything and everything from pencils to food to furniture. Everyone had a story to tell from injury to illness to distress and I noticed the kids have picked up lying as a resort to getting attention. It is funny (not really) though, if you ask them if they are fibbing to get attention they look at you with a smile and a giggle and nod, yes! I know this occured before but it is much worse now.
To those of you who emailed me when Iris first hit...yes the people are fine, they were hit hard but are surviving. Please feel free to email again. sweetlilbigheart@yahoo.com
Peace,
Sarah
