Anyone ever stayed or visited seaside cabanas? My friend and I are arriving mid July and would like information:

1. beach area right in front of cabanas (ok for swimming and snorkeling?)

2. distance to sand box and cindy's from cabanas

3. best snorkeling trip on caye

thank you,

Kelly

The Seaside Cabanas just opened a few weeks ago. I saw them when they were still being built, and they looked fine, but I haven't stayed there. They are just to the left of the public pier on the front side where all the water taxis come in. Just a few feet from The Sandbox and Trends Beach Hotel and Cindy's is around the corner. I think one of the owners used to run Barbara's Guest House. They also do tours and such.

I wouldn't think you'd want to do much swimming and snorkeling right there, as it's a pretty busy area what with boats and water taxis coming in.

Best snorkel trips I think are by Chocolate and by Carlos (Cindy's husband). Sometimes the two work together.

There is no snorkeling from the beach anywhere on Caye Caulker. It
is all seagrass beds. Main pier is just next to the Seaside Cabanas and is
great for snorkeling and swimming.

Sandbox is across from the street from Seaside. Cindy's is closed and will
re-open September 2000.

Great snorkeling trips are available to the Hol Chan Marine Park and the
local reef. Reef trips are $12.50 U.S. for a half day trip to $25.00 U.S.
for a full day trip.

Many people also like to go to the reef with Juni Zaldivar on a traditioal wooden sailboat . He lives in the house where Cindies Cafe used to be.

I am staying at Seaside Cabanas the last week of July. Will the noise from the pier be a downside?

I'm getting married in Belize in March 2003. One tour company recommended Sea Side Cabanas, but from your conversations it sounds like that might me a bad idea if we want peace and quite on a secluded beach.

Any thoughts?

Seaside Cabanas is in the center of town at the foot of the muni dock so there is constant traffic through there.
Although I like Seaside (especially Barb who goes out of her way to assist their guests) and the new additions, I don't think you will find seclusion there.

A better choice for a Caye Caulker honeymoon might be Iguana Reef Inn. They have a website you can check out and see if it suits you. They have a small beach on the backside of the island where it is quiet and restful, great for hammock lounging. Owners are wonderful people, hotel is tops on the island, and they just opened a lovely bar on the property.

Another choice for your honeymoon accomodations is Lazy Iguana Bed & Breakfast. Their 4 rooms are lovely, and it is very secluded and quiet. The owners Mo & Irene Miller will pick you up from the airstrip or the pier. The price includes a wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit, juices, and homemade breads. Their website address is www.lazyiguana.net Check out this website for more Caye Caulker accomodations www.cybercayecaulker.com
