Belizelaw,

As to the airliens (sic), you raise a good point, but in general the carriers respond to demand. They fly many times a day into, say, Cancun, because there's demand, and once or twice a week (US Air off-season) into Belize for the obverse reason.

I flew down on USAir, and the flight down was almost full, but then this time of year they only fly on Saturdays and Sundays. Delta out of Atlanta is now flying a baby jet with not many seats and only one-class service.

More airlift is indeed what Belize needs, but the way to get it is to deliver a better, far cheaper product that will interest loads of tourists. Eventually, Belize will get some service from Europe and from Canada (one flight from Toronto is starting in December, but B.C. needs to be better served). That will make a difference.

P.S. Marty, nice to see you again, and to meet Josh Berman from Moon.

Do we have any idea when the runway at the International Airport will be extended? I heard a rumour that the work has been stopped.

Great report Lan, thanks. I have to say this "slow" season was the slowest I have ever had in this business (since 1983). Let's see how the winter goes...

My son and I were at AC on Nov 4> for bone fishing. Just yesturday I looked at American Airlines rate from Kansas City to Belize City on Monday 12/11>18. The rate for their "club members" was $524/head RT. Sure beats $725 if you go any other days.

Returned from SP first part of November after spending a week there. Was surprised at increase in prices from March. Guess the new tax gave people an opportunity to raise prices.

Also surprised a number of shops, restaurants, etc that were gone.

Roads were a disaster. Tried to go north past the bridge...no way on bikes. Seemed to be more parking on Middle Street.

Believe you're right on about the condo sales and rental market. Was burned in FL in early eighties...conditions are very similar.

Still returning in Jan.....

I think the downturn was probably Caribbean-wide. People were afraid of another hurricane season like last year's.
