Ambergrishog we pay $95 for slow speed at coral cable. I think the next level up is $129 but would have to double check.

I heard middle speed although not as fat as states or Canada is pretty decent. We are considering up-grading to that after chatting to a few people about it.

When the net is too slow remember you are in Belize and go for a nice walk.

I have noticed internet is slow late afternoon and early evening. Fastest 6am to 8am. So get up early, enjoy a quick look at the sunrise and then get to work.

Coral Cable has same rates and speeds as BTL (the phone co), but Coral Cable doesn't require a hefty deposit like BTL does.

$95 - 64KBPS (Bits not Bytes)
$130 - 128KBPS
Then there is the high speed at 256KBPS but I dont know the price.
In Canada the standard cable rate was around 600KBPS or higher depending on the age of the area.

Hvy,

Can you please quote the dish and isntall costs? Are you dishes already in the country? What timeframe and hassle can we expect if we need to get through customs?

If you go with a satellite connection, you are likely to need a 7' dish as this place is at the edge of the satellite coverage (probably depending on which provider you subscribe to, though).
A Starband connection works really well with a 7' dish and brings 700-800 kbps download speed and very few drop-outs, which is very good (for Belize) and more than sufficient for most things (Internet TV and radio, music downloads etc.), at a monthly cost of approx USD 150.00 incl. their "small office package".
My experience is that all US based services require a US address and social security number, so this might not be for everyone.
Julian at the computer store in Middle Street (by Martha's Hotel) is a good local business to talk to about this.

That's just Starband, they are very difficult to receive in Belize. You can get Direcway / Hughesnet with the standard 2' dish and have a great signal!
